Modern Masters Stencils

Modern Masters contracted Melanie Royals to develop this exclusive collection of stencils (Royal Stencil Exclusives) and stencil technique recipe cards (Signature Series Recipe Finishes) under their label. They were designed into four coordinated stencil collections that are utilized extensively in the six Signature Series recipe card sets. These stencils are all cut from thicker 10mil mylar, making them extra sturdy and ideal for using with stencil embossing effects.

Faux-Washi Tape

http://biancandm.blogspot.com/2011/07/dyi-decrative-tape.html

A few months back I was standing in the health care aisle waiting on my husband to select an antihistamine and I noticed the medical tape. Since the first place I go with anything is, can I use this in my art? I decided to buy some and play around with it. Low and behold I discovered that it makes an excellent faux-Washi tape!

For this you'll need: Cloth first-aid tape (I use Johnson's and Johnson's), nonstick craft sheet (you can use parchment paper in a pinch if you don't have the sheet), stencil, copic markers, copic abs and Panpastels.

First step, tear off a piece of the tape and stick down on your non-stick craft sheet:
Next, take your abs and spray the tape. I used a couple of different colors and made a stripped pattern, just by eyeballing it:
Next, I took my number's stencil (made by Coffee Break Design) and my Panpastels and using the white I stenciled the numbers onto the tape:
Here is the really amazing thing that I discovered about the Panpastels & cloth medical tape: it they won't smudge. AT ALL! No fixative needed. Take a look I rubbed my finger on it:
And no pastels came off:
You can add another layer of stenciled pastels in a different color, airbrush on top of it, stamp--really you can do any combination you can think of. So cool.

If you want to play around and experiment, then you can lay the finished tape onto a piece of parchment paper (available in the saran wrap aisle) to save them to use at a later date.

That's it for me today. Hope everyone is well! I'm going to go work on my journal and incorporate this tape into a page.

  • Ranger Tim Holtz Distress Ink – (Broken China, Brushed Corduroy or Walnut Ink)
  • Ranger cut n’ Dry foam
  • Ranger Mini Mister
  • Ranger Jet Black Archival Ink
  • Ranger Heat-It Craft Tool

Steps for Weathered Wood Background
  1. Cut a small section of foam to use as a paint tool. Use you foam section to rub on felt pad of Distress Ink.
  2. Rub sections of the inked pad (Corduroy or Walnut Ink) across the tag – to simulate a wood grain affect. Leave some sections blank without any ink – you will fill in with your second color. Let ink dry.
  3. Use a clean section of your ink pad and load with your second color of Distress Ink (Broken China). Rub the color in the sections that have not been colored. It does not hurt to rub in some of your blue over your brown. Let Dry.
  4. You can use a lighter color of brown to wipe over the entire card – Let Dry.
  5. Stamp your images onto the tag. Start with a background stamp in a shade that is going to be lighter than your top image – You could use any of the brown shades.

Used with a brush it will leave a brush stroke and hold its peak

Liquitex, Golden and Matise are basically the same

Glass Bead Gel - dries clear... great for sand and extra texture

Matte Gel Medium - will give you texture or can be used like a glue to adhere papers or fabric.

Matte Medium

Matte Medium can be an extender for paint... can self level
